Liturgical Colors in the Sanctuary – The season of Lent

Liturgical colors can help orient us to the seasons of the church year and help to engage the sense of sight in worship. Purple is the liturgical color used between Ash Wednesday and Maunday Thursday designating a season of penitence and preparation. Between that day and Easter, there is no color (or black) in the sanctuary symbolizing the death of Christ. White and gold are used on Easter to represent the holiness and triumph of the resurrection of Jesus.
