NEWCOMB CHRISTMAS PLANS
On Sunday, November 1, Paul and I traveled through the Navajo Reservation on our way to Arizona. All of the pawn shops and restaurants were closed. No vehicles in the grocery store parking lots. No rez dogs at the closed McDonalds. The reservation lockdown felt like something out of a sci-fi movie, a testament to the Navajo government’s commitment to try to contain the new out-break of the corona virus.
As of today, all gatherings, including family gatherings, are ban on the reservation. The joint church Christmas party held the last few years in celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ cannot be held. In its place the mission committee is sponsoring a food drive which will be held from December 9 through 17.
If you would like to contribute to this Christmas project, please take donations from Dec.9-17 to the home of Ulys and John Gardella, 8 Delwood Circle. If no one is home, please put the donation in front of the garage.
Any food is appreciated but if you would like suggestions here are a few:
Flour, Sugar, Lard, Canola oil, Corn flakes, Instant mashed potatoes, Canned corn or green beans, Canned peaches, Stuffing mix. Red Jello mix, Gravy, Holiday cookies, Holiday candy, Spam, Paper products, Cleaning supplies, Any other food item you would like to donate
Thank you for the continued support of this important mission project.
