Obituary Announcement about the death of Jerry Hickman, July 15, 1947 – March 10, 2023 – Memorial Service at Hood Mortuary on Saturday, April 1 at 10am – Reception for the Hickman Family at FPC Following

Gerald “Jerry” Hickman

Gerald (Jerry) Hickman, 75, from Dove Creek, Colorado passed away on March 10, 2023 in Grand Junction, CO after a sudden illness.

Jerry was born in Durango, CO on July 15, 1947 to Ambrose and Elvena Hickman. During his younger years, he lived in Pagosa Springs, Bayfield, and Gem Village and graduated in 1967 from Durango High School. After graduation he joined the Navy and spent four years traveling to different countries. Upon returning to Durango he spent the next 41 years working for City Market, first as a baker, then bakery manager and finally as produce manager. On December 21, 1973 he married Vicki Cochran and together they had two children. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Durango and the Independent Order of Oddfellows.

He is survived by his wife Vicki, of the family home, daughter Kari (Matt) Szura of Durango; son Norman (Amber) Hickman of Dove Creek; Grandsons Jeremy and Zachry Szura of Thornton, CO and Ian Szura of Durango; Granddaughters Taylor, Rylee, Ralynn and Taryn Hickman all of Dove Creek. Also surviving are his sisters, Pauletta (Jim) Van Horn of Gravette, AR, Lavina (Tim) Meador of Hesperus, CO and various cousins, nieces and nephews. Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Elvena Hickman and nephew Wesley Hickman.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 10:00 am at Hood Mortuary Chapel in Durango, with interment following at Greenmount Cemetery.
